Matson landscape SE view copyEvent title: Restoring the Last Camas Meadows on Victoria Harbour
Date: Wednesday, September 28
Time: 9 - 11:30am

Event description This 2.4 acre protected property in Esquimalt contains Victoria harbour's last patch of rare and endangered Garry oak ecosystems. In spring the meadows and rocky outcrops of the Matson Conservation Area are a blaze of colour as camas, seablush, and other native wildflowers bloom. Species at Risk here include Great Blue Heron, and Purple Martin.
Volunteers will learn about the effects of ecosystem fragmentation, urbanization, and climate change in this endangered habitat. We will learn effective techniques to remove invasive plants like English Ivy and Scotch Broom along the beautiful seashore where years of conservation efforts can be observed.
