HAT members are the foundation of our stewardship and conservation efforts.

Show your support for our region’s natural places by becoming a member of HAT.
Membership is one of the principal aspects of how Habitat Acquisition Trust is governed. As a member-based organization, every January members participate in HAT governance at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). These meetings give HAT board and staff the chance to be accountable to our members, to report out on the previous year, and express our vision for the coming year.
The purchase and renewal of memberships represent a consistent, community-based funding source that HAT relies on to undertake some of our work.
Every year HAT holds a special event specifically for our members outside of the Annual General Meeting. The member lunch gives us all the chance to socialize, get to know each other, and share stories.
Please become a HAT member. We very much look forward to beginning our relationship with you and working together to see a future where the full array of natural habitats on south Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands is healthy and conserved.

HAT Membership Options:
As of 1 July 2020, HAT is changing the way membership works. In an effort to cultivate relationships with local partners, especially in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, HAT feels the time is right to begin offering benefits to members if they choose. The idea is to work as a community to support local businesses that share our vision of conserving and stewarding habitat around Southern Vancouver Island for future generations of all species while growing HAT’s membership.
Membership with Benefits
In this style of membership, members do not receive a tax receipt for their donation. Rather, Members with Benefits* will be sent a current HAT membership card, and they will be able to show that card to receive the following benefits from our partners:
Sea Cider Farm & Cider House: 1 free short flight, per membership card, per month (only available in the Sea Cider tasting room at the Farm),
West Coast Refill: 5% off of in-store purchases, with a membership card,
Metchosin Farm: 10% off all online orders (membership code required),
Haultain Health Centre: 1st Visit free, and 5% off acupuncture treatments thereafter
Blanshard Street Winery: 25% off a batch of wine and free bottles
Saanich Native Plants: 10% off potted plants & pre-packed seeds
and, members get 10% off their purchases of HAT Swag! That's right, t-shirts (with art by Estraven Lumpino-Smith), the always popular HAT hats, and more!
We are hoping to add some other partners to the list soon, so stay tuned!
*Please Note: These benefits do not apply to Organization memberships.
Thank you very much to all of our local partner's for working with us!
Standard HAT Membership
This membership is exactly like the way membership works before 1 July 2020. If you’re not interested in receiving discounts at some local businesses, then you will receive a tax receipt for your donation.
All HAT Members receive:
- Sharing the process of conservation on Southern Vancouver Island,
- Invitation to special members appreciation events, including the June Member Luncheon,
- A copy of our quarterly newsletter, HAT Chat by email or post,
- Voting privileges at the Annual General Meeting, and
- Membership is low-cost for you, your family or your organization!
More members help us complete the stewardship and land conservation work we do, and helps us successfully receive grant funding. Every contribution you make is used effectively to create a conservation legacy for your community but you can choose to change or end your contribution at any time. At the end of the year, you will receive a tax receipt for the total amount of contributions you have made to HAT over the year.
*HAT’s work needs help every day of the year - become a Monthly Habitat Hero. As a monthly contributor, you do not receive our appeal letters unless you ask for them - instead, get an annual update of how your monthly contributions have made a difference to habitats.
