Donate to HAT

If you’d like to make a donation in-person with cash, cheque, or card, come by our office at 202-661 Burnside Road East during business hours.

Cheques and cash can be mailed to PO Box 8552, Victoria BC, V8W 3S2. Please make cheques out to Habitat Acquisition Trust. For cash donations, please include a note for us with your full name and mailing address if you would like to receive a charitable tax receipt. Please note that it may take us a few weeks to receive the cash or cheque and process your payment and receipt.

E-transfers can be made out to hatmail@hat.bc.ca. For charitable tax receipt reasons, please include your full name and mailing address in the notes for us.

Donations by credit card can be made over the phone by calling us at 250-995-2428.

Habitat Acquisition Trust will make every reasonable effort to use your gift as directed to support specific programs and initiatives. All donations help to advance HAT’s charitable mandate. If a program or project becomes fully funded, is completed, changes in circumstance, or cannot proceed as planned, the Habitat Acquisition Trust Board of Directors reserves the right to reallocate funds to other priority conservation needs or general operations, in accordance with applicable Canadian charity law.

This is entirely up to you. However, it is most beneficial to us when funds are non-designated. All non-designated funds are put into the General - Where Most Needed fund. HAT Board Members determine what area has the greatest need and use this funding accordingly.

A tax receipt will be generated automatically within 24 hours if you donate through the embedded form above. If you donate through other means, such as over the phone, we may need some time to process the payment on our end and send you the receipt.

You can always reach out to us if you need us to re-send a tax receipt or to send one via mail.

HAT does accept non-monetary donations on a case-by-case basis. We usually accept office chairs, monitors, lamps, etc., for the HAT office and event tents, as well as large thermos, etc., for volunteer events. Please reach out if you have an item in good working order and feel HAT would benefit from it.

Donate a Car Canada accepts Vehicle Donations on behalf of HAT. Free towing is provided in most areas across Canada, or you can drop off your vehicle to maximize your donation. When you donate your car, truck, RV, boat, or motorcycle to the Habitat Acquisition Trust through Donate A Car Canada, it will either be recycled or sold at auction (depending on its condition, age and location). Donate a Car Canada will look after all the details to make it easy for HAT to benefit. After your vehicle donation is complete, you will receive a tax receipt and we will put your gift to good use. We invite anyone and everyone to become a member with HAT! That said, individuals must opt-in to membership to be considered a HAT member, either by using the above form and selecting ‘YES, I would like to be a HAT member’ or by visiting our membership page. If you are unsure about your membership status, or have any questions about membership, you can email shania@hat.bc.ca to inquire.

The main distinction between a HAT member and a donor is that HAT members, and only HAT members, hold voting rights at our Annual General Meeting and help to decide the future direction of the organization. HAT members will also be invited to additional events or opportunities that we hold for members only. Membership is a great way to support us and stay involved!

In other words, HAT is a Canadian registered charity and registered society (S-36193) with a constitution and set of by-laws by which to adhere; HAT members are a principle component of this governance structure.
