Got Bats?

anabat webThanks to the Bob Berry Scientific Award, HAT is the proud new owner of a Bat Detector - an Anabat SD2.  Now we just need practice using it!  If you have bats on your property, for instance in your roof shingles or attic, and would like the company of a biologist for a few evenings, please let us know!  We would like to monitor evening bat emergence at a few locations to practice using the device.

You would be helping us launch a Community Bat Program with the goals of better understanding and conserving bat populations in Southern Vancouver Island.  We've been very fortunate to get advice from Juliet Craig of the successful Kootenay Bat Project, and of course the bat detector itself, but there is a lot that we still need to learn.  First up is learning to use our bat detector to its full potential, but we also need find out more about where our bats are in South Vancouver Island, and what boxes they will use.
